As we mark the Indonesian Independence Day on August 17th, in this edition we’re going to discuss about independent; Independent Woman, That Is. The roles of women have gone through some dramatic changes. Due to mass media, urbanization and politics, women have achieved equality to men in education, workplace and everywhere else you look. And thanks to the sexual revolution, we have freed our minds. Women are now able to support themselves and raise their own children without the help of a man, thus escaping the traditional role of mother and wife.
So what can we ‘Indonesian women’ do? Whether or not you are single or married, you can still apply these 7 helpful advices to become your own individual. |
|
| 1. Define who and what you are for yourself. Don’t allow others to define who/what you are, and don’t allow media or society determine what you should be. |
|
 |
| 2. Decide for yourself what kind of person you will most likely to be. If there are things about your inner self you don’t like, decide to change them. |
| |
| 3. Identify and understand your abilities and potential. Keep in mind, whenever you doubt yourself; think about your qualifications and capability. |
|
4. Be someone who has some interests in life and in the world. Interests make a life and a person more whole. Being more whole means being more independent and strong. |
 |
| 5. Don’t try to imitate men. Men haven’t always gotten things right; but even when they do, their way may not be the best way or the only way. Show the world what women are capable of. |
| 6. Get a solid
education that will result in a high-paid job or get training
that offers solid, marketable skills for work that pays well.
Financial independence is very important. |
| |
7. Learn about different
types of investments and how to invest wisely. Being able to
pay the rent is one thing. Building wealth is another.
|

|
| The key is to believe in
yourself, accept the world, and see the world with its good
and bad. Choose to be a strong individual for yourself and
others. Make your mind up, the choice to be the independent
one is on your hand. |
